Resources for Self-Publishing: Reedsy

I stumbled across Reedsy because I was looking for a name generator. After clicking through a lot of the available options, I found that several just spewed gibberish and others were coming up with names so random and odd they were unusable for my purposes.

Then, I found Reedsy. At first, I just liked the name generator tool. You could select regions, style of character, and kind of book you wanted to pull names from.

Very quickly, however, I realized that Reedsy was a gold mine.

Reedsy Marketplace is a one-stop shop for independent authors to find the tools to self-publish their books.

Reedsy’s self-professed purpose is to connect writers to professionals in the book publishing industry. They boast a marketplace of over 2,500 editors, designers, typesetters, marketing experts, (many of whom have worked for the Big 5 publishers!) who are all available to help you complete your self-publishing journey.

Reedsy offers several, free 10-day courses for writers at any level.

Additionally, they have a comprehensive blog and tons of free, 10-day seminars for you to learn from. From conceiving a novel (They have a plot prompter) to getting a copy in print, they are truly a one-stop-shop for any independent author.

Getting a quote from the professionals on Reedsy Marketplace is free, so you can begin to build your self-publishing budget. If you’re looking to publish on a budget, remember that these people are some of the best in the business and they charge accordingly. You may be tempted to outsource some work to freelance sites like Fiverr or Upwork, but remember; you get what you pay for.

As someone just starting out on the self-publishing journey, I am thrilled to have a resource like Reedsy. So much of the mystery around publishing a book is taken away by their easy-to-use site.

Personally, I have a limited budget for my first book as well, so I will prioritize having an editor and a marketing professional help with my book.

The more time you spend clicking around Reedsy, the more you discover. They offer a free, professional writing app to help you format and edit your book with a team. They have lists of book promotion sites, literary magazines, and writing contests, as well as title generators, writing exercises, and plot generators. You could spend a whole day practicing and enjoying the site.

If I’ve sold you on its merits, check out Reedsy today for all your self-publishing needs.
